![]() ![]() But just what is that Race Table all about. I have rated all of these with my own personal PISS OFF FACTOR (POF) from 1-10, with 1 being "I can live with it" and 10 bring a CRIME against Role-playing and the development of C&S specifically. Linier Level Based Skill advancement (esp. Military Ability, Command Level and PCF How Stats effect Skills + Skills in General However, seeing this PDF, I am pretty confident that this IS just a rehash of 1st and 2nd, bringing in key elements of supplements like Swords and Sorcerers etc, and making one big book, so I don't think my concerns will be met later on. I am somewhat impetuous and when I see something wrong (IMO) I have to say, sometimes to my regret. It is VERY disappointing to see such backward steps to certain aspects of the game.īut what are the mechanics I mentioned earlier? Bear in mind I have only managed to go through the first third or so of the book, so if there are answers in the book later on to the below, then apologies. I am not talking about how it is laid out, but more the substance of the game. I am a lifelong fan of C&S, I still think it the best Fantasy RPG game available, and I certainly WON'T be buying 5th Edition, if it ever comes out in the format I have seen here. Having looked through about the first third of this 'NEW' 5th Edition I am saddened greatly, as I just think we are taking a massive step backwards. Now to go back to 1st/2nd Edition will be a huge mistake, when 3rd (yes EVEN 3rd) and 4th Edition dealt with these mechanics a lot better. That is not to say that 1st Edition didn't make a better fist of these game mechanics than other RPG games, it DID, but C&S in itself managed to improve certain game mechanics beyond what 1st Edition presented. I believe that each iteration of C&S has in some of the game mechanics, improved a great deal from what 1st Edition presented. ![]() Of course at the end of the day this is all about personal preference, but if one key philosophy of C&S can be placed at the top of all others, then it has always been that C&S attempted to be a REALISTIC. ![]() However I have fundamental issues with going back, seemingly wholesale, to editions 1 and/or 2, which no one has given a satisfactory answers to. ![]() That's why I won all the editions and just about all the official supplements ever produced, certainly for the early editions. But, before I slate 1st, 2nd and now what looks to be 5th edition, let me just say that I love C&S and think it is quite simply to best fantasy RPG concept going. ![]()
